After a recent incident of indecent exposure (responded to by local police), plus a separate occasion of youths targeting primary age children from the pathway, the proposal is for the footpath to be closed during school hours. This would ensure that all school children could play and have lessons on the yard without being put at risk. At present, the school yard is separated from the footpath by a metal railing fence, allowing for direct contact between members of the public and primary age school children and teachers / support staff.
This closure would also allow a safe passage for any school children and teachers using the adjacent field (for example for PE) in the event of an emergency to safely return to the school buildings. As currently in such emergency (as was the case with the recent indecent exposure incident) pupils and staff had to cross the footpath, putting themselves at risk from any members of the public intending to cause disruption and/or harm.
The footpath is not visible from a road, or in a high footfall area, and is obscured by trees/bushes, arguably making it more susceptible for antisocial behaviours.
