5. PROPOSED HOME TO SCHOOL TRANSPORT POLICY 25-26 pdf icon PDF 779 KB

Purpose: The Learner Travel (Wales) Measure 2008 sets out the legal responsibilities for the provision of school transport which places a duty on local authorities to review their transport policy on an annual basis.

 

To provide Cabinet with the results of the recent public consultation exercise to assist them in determining whether to implement any of the options in the 25-26 Home to School Transport Policy.

That Cabinet considered the consultation responses, together with the content of this report and supporting documentation.

 

To implement the following in the 25-26 Home to School Transport Policy:

· That the Council adopts the statutory distance eligibility criteria of two miles for primary aged learners who are attending their nearest suitable or catchment school.

· That the Council adopts the statutory distance eligibility criteria of three miles for secondary aged learners who are attending their nearest suitable or catchment school.

· Expanding the application of personal transport budgets where this is the most economically advantageous option for the Council. This option would only be implemented if the parents /guardians agree with the proposal, and they have the means to transport their child(ren) on a daily basis.

 

To delegate authority to the Chief Officer Communities & Place to develop and or amend the Home to School Transport Policy and any supporting guidance to reflect Cabinets decision.
