Purpose: The purpose of the report is to seek Members’ permission to consult with stakeholders about the Authority’s intention to establish an all-through school with a specialist provision for children with complex neurodevelopmental and learning needs in Abergavenny on the site of King Henry VIII Comprehensive School..

Members will be aware that agreement to proceed with the project and the associated funding will be subject to separate reports in the future. This report is to agree the school organisation route that will allow the creation of the school.

Decision:

To agree to enter into a Statutory Consultation process as set out in the School Organisation Code (a document produced by virtue of the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 20131 ) to obtain the views of consultees on establishing an all-through school with specialist provision for pupils between the ages of 4-19 in Abergavenny.

 

To agree and approve the draft Statutory Consultation Document (appendix 1) which proposes to establish the all-through school and specialist provision on the King Henry VIII Site.

 

To agree to undertake the consultation in line with the timeline proposed under appendix 2.
